Regular delivery of concussion education can significantly improve knowledge about concussions, leading to positive changes in attitudes and behaviors related to concussions. It is estimated that one in five sport-related injuries are concussions. However, it is surprising to note that only about 200,000 concussions are reported each year in Canada. This highlights the under-addressed nature of concussions as a health issue. Educating ourselves and others about concussions is vital because it enables early recognition, proper medical assessments, and appropriate management. Understanding and awareness of concussions can make a difference in how a person recovers from a concussion. |
Brain Waves is a fun and educational program for students in Grades 4-6. Students learn about the structure and function of the nervous system through experiments and interactive lessons, and about the importance of protecting the brain and spinal cord!
